Whine....Wine....

Today was one of those days where I felt defeated.  Sounds depressing right?  Well, yes and no.  My day started out with a sick little boy who has a cough and nasty runny nose.  For all of you who know me, you know that Finn has spent way too much time in the hospital lately.  So when this happens I go into panic mode thinking that he will be at the babysitter and stop breathing while i'm working at the winery.  I was on the verge of tears all day at work worrying about this sweet little man of ours.  When stuff like this happens I start thinking about how no one can ever have it all.  Everyone has struggles, everyone has to have a little heartache and some hurdles to jump.  I figure that since I have been so lucky in my life so far by having a wonderful husband, beautiful son, amazing home, supportive family and friends that dealing with Finn's asthma is just one of those hurdles that we have to jump...maybe multiple times.  It really makes you appreciate life and the people you have with you and has made me realize that NO ONE truely 'has it all'. So after a lot of thought and having my lovely husband pick Finn up early from the sitter (since I was going crazy with all of the worst senarios running through my head), I decided we needed to enjoy some really tasty food and wine.  We ordered Thai food from Bangkok (our favorite Thai restaurant) and enjoyed some chilled white wine with it.  We always seem to order the same thing, it is like our comfort food.  We get, Chicken Phad Thai, Green Curry with Tofu, Butterflies and Sticky Rice with Mango.  It felt SO good to pick this up and go home to an energetic little boy who was happy to see me (who was also way less sick that I was imagining).  Jeremiah and I dished up and finally drank our 2008 Semillon from Fidelitas which really complimented the Phad Thai.  Following our awesome dinner there was a huge thunderstorm...we ran outside like a cute little couple and took a lot of pictures.  I love my life, I love my huband and I love my baby so much.  Just one of those days where it really hits ya...

Recent Adventures...

Saturday
It's been awhile...since we had a crazy, fun weekend last week I have a lot to talk about!  Last Saturday Finn and I went to a gathering at an old (and current) friends house.  It is kind of crazy that between four of my childhood friends we all have kids less that 6 months apart so it was fun to see them all play together.  Finn had a ton of fun, especially since there was a horse there.  It really warms my heart to see my little boy play with 'friends'.  I also had a blast catching up with people who I love.

Sunday & Monday
We woke up bright and early to spend the night at Tucannon's KOA camping resort with my mom.  I remembered that I love camping, climbing up mountains that hardly have a trail, the rain, burnt marshmallows and fishing.  These are all things that I thought I didn't really need in my life anymore, but I was wrong.  I am thinking that this summer will be full of adventure.  Finn went fishing for the first time, but decided it just wasn't for him...yet.  He really enjoyed throwing rocks into the lake and chasing beetles.  It was really great to see him having so much fun.  Jeremiah, Bryan (my brother) and I climed up a mountain on this trip as well.  I thought it would be impossible so I stayed behind at first.  But when I saw them at the top, I knew (with Mountain Dew in hand) that I could scale it in no time.  I was right and made it up pretty quickly.  It was fun mapping out my own trail since there wasnt much of one carved out already.  They went on to a higher point and I made my own path down, sliding down on my butt for the last part because it was too steep to walk down.  I looked really great doing this too.

A Little East Coast...

Today I baked a bunch of cookies!  I made dark chocolate chip and butterscotch chip and they turned out amazing!  A little trick I use is that I use less butter than called for and more brown sugar than white.  The brown sugar keeps them moist longer and the less butter cuts down on the amount of grease you get on your hands while enjoying them!  I busted these cookies out today because Jeremiah's cousin Peter came into town tonight from Maine with his girlfriend, Ellen AND his dad just got back from Maine today as well.  I knew that these cookies would make Jerry's night as my cookies always seem to do that!  I was happy to add a little chub to everyones love handles, especially since everyone loved them!  We had a fantastic spaghetti dinner at the McGuire's and emptied 3 bottles of wine.  It was a good night.  I don't have any pics from today, but tomorrow I should have a ton of awesome pictures since we are going wine tasting on beautiful Red Mountain.  I can't wait!  I am lucky to have married into such a wonderful family!  Cheers!

We Be Bloggin'!

So, upon request I have started a blog.  This blog is going to be my nightly (or so) re-cap of the day, funny things Finn says, my dinners and desserts I love to make and stuff about the people and places I love!  I really hope that I can stay true to posting because this gives me something else to do rather than live on facebook and watch American Idol.
